Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Candle Care and Wick Trimming

How should I care for my candle and trim the wick?

  • Wick Trimming: Trim the wick to ¼ inch before lighting your candle each time. This ensures a longer-lasting, cleaner burn. Use a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or pinch off the burnt wood with your fingers.
  • Optimal Burn Time: Burn your candle for 3-4 hours at a time. On the first use, let the wax melt all the way to the container's edges to prevent tunneling and wick drowning.
  • Safety First: Never leave a burning candle unattended or near drafts, pets, or children.
  • Managing High Flames/Hot Containers: If the flame gets too high or the container too hot, extinguish the flame, let it cool, trim the wick, and relight.

Troubleshooting

My Candle Won't Stay Lit

What should I do if my candle won’t stay lit?

  • Check the Wick Length: Ensure the wick is trimmed to 1/8-1/4 inch.
  • Full Melt Pool: Burn the candle long enough for the melt pool to reach the vessel's edges.
  • Fixing a Drowned Wick: If the wick is drowning, pour out some wax and use a blow dryer to remelt the top layer until it’s even. Trim the wick and relight.

Candle Appearance and Performance

Why does the top of my candle look rough and bumpy?

This is a characteristic of 100% natural soy wax. It’s completely normal and won’t affect the candle's performance.

Why does my candle look discolored after burning?

Discoloration is common with soy wax and wood wicks. Burnt particles from the wood wick can mix with the wax, causing discoloration. This does not affect the candle's performance or safety. To minimize discoloration:
  • Regularly trim the wick and remove any burnt wood before relighting.
  • Burn the candle long enough to create a full melt pool.
  • Ensure good ventilation in the room.

About Our Wax and Wicks

Why do we use soy wax?

Our 100% natural soy wax is derived from soybeans and is free of paraffin, gluten, toxins, parabens, and phthalates. It’s FDA-approved, ensuring peace of mind when using our candles.

Why is the type of wax important?

Most candles use a wax blend, often containing paraffin, which is derived from petroleum and releases harmful chemicals when burned. In contrast, our soy wax is clean and safe, aligning with our commitment to offering eco-friendly products.

What’s special about wood wicks?

Wood wicks provide a subtle crackling sound and are organic, non-toxic, and eco-friendly, sourced from FSC-certified mills. However, they may require more attention due to natural variations in wood grain and moisture content. Always keep the wick trimmed to 1/8-1/4 inch for consistent burning.

Reusing Candle Containers

Can I reuse my candle container?

Absolutely! Here’s how:
  1. Place the container in the freezer for a few hours.
  2. Remove and dislodge the wax.
  3. Wiggle the wick holder free from the container.
  4. Clean the container with your favorite cleaning product.
Ideas for reusing containers include desk accessories, pencil holders, mini planters, jewelry or hair tie holders, or home decor.
